- This picture of the fire engine is I believe,The original South West of England Insurance Co.'s horse pulled appliance that was moved from Well Street to the new premises which were then behind the Oldenburg in Winner Street. It was a steam driven pump and was in service until replaced by the modern Leyland engine in the 1920's. The horse was stabled behind the Oldenburg Inn. The tower at 56 Palace avenue is shown here. |
